Standing Joint Committee for the Scrutiny of Regulations - Return of Things Seized

Description of the objective

The Standing Joint Committee for the Scrutiny of Regulations has identified potential errors, inaccuracies and inconsistencies in "Part 16 – Seizures" of the Immigration and Refugee Protection Regulations (IRPR).

The proposed amendments will provide clarity with respect to these issues, and will correct other errors and inconsistencies.

Initial public consultations on the proposed regulatory amendments were undertaken with the following groups between January 13th 2017 and February 16th, 2017:

The proposed regulatory amendments are expected to be pre-published in the Canada Gazette, Part I by spring 2018
