Vancouver, British Columbia, June 18, 2010 – Today the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) made the following statement in response to the final Braidwood Report.
Since the first Braidwood Report, the CBSA has in fact made a number of changes such as improvements to how the CBSA interacts with family members and those awaiting international travellers; updating the list of multilingual CBSA employees; increasing our capacity to monitor travellers, by camera and through routine patrols, as they transit through CBSA halls; and improving the availability of interpretation services for our officers. For detailed information, see attached fact sheet.
Preliminary perusal of the report indicates that there may still be a number of areas of improvement for the CBSA to implement. The CBSA will thoroughly review Commissioner Braidwood’s report and give each recommendation serious consideration.
Annually, the CBSA interacts with over 90 million travellers from around the world and we are committed to ensuring all are treated in an efficient, fair and equitable manner. Facilitating legitimate travel, while protecting the integrity of our borders and safety of Canadians, remains the top priority of the CBSA.
