The Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) wishes to advise you of changes to the 2009 Departmental Consolidation of the Customs Tariff that will be released as the T2009-6 Amending package.
That package will reflect changes pursuant to Bill C-24, An Act to implement the Free Trade Agreement between Canada and the Republic of Peru, the Agreement on the Environment between Canada and the Republic of Peru and the Agreement on Labour Cooperation between Canada and the Republic of Peru. These changes are effective August 1, 2009 and will be reflected in the Customs Commercial System (CCS) on that date. Pursuant to this Free Trade Agreement, a new Tariff Treatment will be created for Peru (PT); Code 25 will apply. The numbering or description of certain current tariff items are impacted by this Free Trade Agreement:
- Tariff item 1701.91.00 will be repealed and replaced by tariff items 1701.91.10 and 1701.91.90
- Tariff item 1701.99.00 will be repealed and replaced by tariff items 1701.99.10 and 1701.99.90
- Tariff item 1702.90.20 will be repealed and replaced by tariff items 1702.90.21 and 1702.90.29
- Tariff item 1702.90.30 will be repealed and replaced by tariff items 1702.90.70, 1702.90.81 and 1702.90.89
- Tariff item 1702.90.60 will be repealed and replaced by tariff items 1702.90.61 * and 1702..90.69
- The descriptions of Tariff items 9922.80.00, 9971.00.00, 9990.00.00 and 9992.00.00 will be amended to reflect the provisions of Bill C-24.
The changes (listed above) to the Chapter 99 Tariff Items and the descriptions for the new Tariff Items, as well as the Statistical Suffixes for those new Tariff Items, will appear in the Departmental Consolidation of the Customs Tariff.
The "Chapters 01-99, Single PDF file" and the downloadable "Winzipped Microsoft Access file" versions of that documentwill be available on the CBSA website the week of July 27, 2009. The "Chapters 01-99, Single PDF file" will follow shortly thereafter.
